If you are considering removing an ash tree or have recently, consider this large, native tree would make an excellent buddy tree/replacement. Its growth pattern resembles an elm, but it does not have the same susceptibility to disease. As the tree matures, interesting corky bark appears, and dark red drupes about 1/3" in diameter that turn dark purple and persists into winter. Animals and birds really enjoy these fruits, so you may find some furry/feathery friends checking it out.
